A well-worked corner was finished off by captain Luke Murphy 6 minutes in and in the second half young Crewe player Max Clayton scored after powering Southend's Moshini off the ball. The game had lots of controversy as Britt Assombalonga's header was apparently stopped by an arm on the line.
